House — Vienna
“Each interior reflects the dreams and desires of those who inhabit it.”
Here, the “portrait” is built around a dialogue between the interior volumes and the exterior forms, the careful manipulation of natural and artificial light, and the creation of finishes and furnishings that tell the stories of key elements and moments in the owners’ lives.
The front door is carved in the manner of layered crystal pendants, echoing the owner’s love for Vienna crystal chandeliers. The spine of the project is a custom-designed elevator shaft in beveled colored glass, wrapped by the stairs. The whole is placed in front of a bay window facing southwest. Each sunset, as the rays of light pass through the colored glass casing, the owners will be able to enjoy a different “multicolored painting” on the surrounding walls.
The change of scale in the details, the meticulous development of larger forms and surfaces, which reference smaller decorative objects, express the artisanal process that blurs the line between interior design and furniture design while celebrating contemporary detailing, abstraction and storytelling.
